2016 Salvation Army Volunteer Opportunities and Holiday Projects
The Vail Valley Salvation Army has numerous opportunities during the 2016 holiday season for involvement within our community. Please contact (970) 748-0704 for additional information.
Office help: We would love to have folks who would come to the offices and help answer and return phone calls during November and December. If they can type, we’d love help with data entry as well. We need bi-lingual helpers to make phone calls to clients, as well.
Fill the Vans: On November 12, 2016, Colorado Mountain Express is doing their annual “Fill the Vans” food drive. We need helpers in the afternoon to assist in unloading the food from the vans.
Ring the Bell: From the day after Thanksgiving, until Christmas Eve. We need bell-ringers. Starting at 10 a.m. in two hour shifts. Last shift from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Locations: City Market in Vail, Avon & Eagle, Safeway in Vail, Village Market in Edwards, Wal-Mart, and Ridley’s Market in Gypsum. Click in the link above to sign up!
Food Baskets: We will assemble and deliver Thanksgiving baskets on the Saturday before Thanksgiving at Avon Elementary in Avon, and at the United Methodist Church in Eagle. No need to sign up, just show up on or before 9:00 a.m.
THIS YEAR WE WILL NOT ASSEMBLE AND DISTRIBUTE CHRISTMAS FOOD BASKETS. Applicants will receive another form of donation.
Colorado Gives Day: On Tuesday, December 6, 2016. We need volunteers to help us promote Colorado Gives Day, by standing outside with signs, and handing out flyers. There will be locations throughout the valley. This benefits almost 40 local non-profit agencies.
Holiday Cabin: December 10, 2016, we will have our Holiday Cabin, at Traer Creek in Avon, ready to distribute toys for those families who are not matched up for Adopt-a-Family. Each family can can come and select two toys or gifts for their own children.
Adopt-a-Family: Application will be available from September 19, 2016 through December 5, 2016. We need donors and referrals of recipient families from our local agencies.
Christmas Concert: On Thursday, December 22, at 7:30 p.m., Pat Hamilton and Peter Vavra will have their magical Christmas Concert at the Beaver Creek Chapel. $25.00 donation at the door.
There are many other things that come up all the time, and it is good to have people who are willing to be “on-call”.
Vail Valley Salvation Army could not do what we do without the help of committed volunteers and such a giving and caring community.
Many thanks for all you do!
